Bellevue LifeSpring Steps Up to the Plate' for Families in Need

Bellevue LifeSpring has revealed that nearly 4,000 children in Bellevue are experiencing food insecurity, the highest figure in eight years, leading to one in five students relying on free and reduced-price meal programs. To combat this crisis, the organization is hosting its 21st annual Step Up to the Plate Benefit Luncheon on May 24, 2022, with a goal of raising $500,000 to support local low-income families. Executive Director Jennifer Fischer expressed enthusiasm about the event, highlighting it as a critical opportunity for community reconnection after pandemic disruptions. Donations made through the event will directly benefit children and families in need, showcasing the community’s generosity during challenging times. Kris Howard, the events and volunteer director, pointed out that food assistance requests surged by 50%, while rental assistance requests tripled during the pandemic. Bellevue LifeSpring has delivered over 987,000 meals and prevented homelessness for over 1,200 children since March 2020. Howard underscored the organization's ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the community, stating, "we’re small but mighty." The upcoming luncheon serves not only as a fundraising event but also as a celebration of the community's support and resilience.
