Bellevue Youth Link Celebrates Unity, Diversity on a Virtual Stage
Bellevue's Youth Link will host its annual Unity Through Diversity event on March 4, 2022, a virtual celebration designed to highlight the city's vibrant multicultural community. With nearly 100 languages spoken by students in the Bellevue School District, the event will feature a range of cultural dances, spoken word performances, and artistic expressions from local youth. Patrick Alina, the coordinator at Youth Link, notes that this celebration is crafted by youths for youths, emphasizing their remarkable talents and contributions to the community. Since its establishment in 2016, the Unity Through Diversity event has evolved to meet the changing needs of Bellevue's diverse population, focusing on significant social justice issues in past years. Alina points out that in 2019, nearly 39% of Bellevue's residents were foreign-born, with 43% speaking languages other than English at home, illustrating the city's increasing cultural diversity. The event is not only a platform for artistic expression but also a vital opportunity for community engagement and information sharing. Pre-registration is required for participation, with efforts made to accommodate diverse needs. This initiative reflects Bellevue's broader commitment to cultural competence and inclusivity.
