Vision Zero progress report and action plan highlight road safety successes, areas of opportunity

The Bellevue City Council recently updated the public on its Vision Zero initiative, a comprehensive plan aimed at eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries by the year 2030. The 2025 Action Plan details a variety of strategies, including utilizing federal and state funds for safety projects and implementing innovative engineering solutions. Community engagement is a vital component, with walking audits scheduled for May and June, allowing residents to share their experiences and needs. The 2024 Progress Report showcased notable achievements, including securing over $15.7 million in grants and constructing over 12,000 feet of new sidewalks. Despite these advancements, Bellevue reported its highest number of traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries in a decade, with two fatalities and 34 serious injuries in 2024 alone.
