Council Roundup Council prepares for action on middle housing

Bellevue City Council approved changes to housing policies to comply with new state legislation promoting middle housing. The modifications will expand housing types and density in residential areas, aimed at improving affordability and increasing supply by the June 30 deadline. During a recent briefing, council members sought clarity on the Planning Commission's recommendations versus state minimum requirements. Final votes on the changes will take place in upcoming meetings. The council also appointed new members to the Human Services, Planning, and Transportation commissions, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in local governance. Additionally, the council proclaimed June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, highlighting the serious issues affecting older adults. This initiative was established by the United Nations in 2011 to raise awareness of elder abuse. The council's actions reflect a commitment to enhancing community welfare and addressing pressing social issues.
