** Bomb Cyclone Windstorm Causes Significant Damage in Bellevue and Sparks Debris Collection Efforts

The severe windstorm, classified as a bomb cyclone, struck Bellevue on November 19, 2024, uprooting trees and leaving many residents without power. In light of the extensive damage, King County's Solid Waste Division has temporarily paused free storm debris collection at its transfer stations until December 7 due to an overwhelming influx of debris. To assist residents, Republic Services is offering curbside collection of up to 192 gallons of yard debris without additional fees until December 6, provided the debris is contained appropriately. The county will resume collection on December 2 for woody debris taken to designated recycling stations, free of charge. King County Emergency Management is assessing the storm's impact and collecting damage reports to seek state or federal recovery assistance. As power restoration efforts continue, residents are reminded to stay safe and avoid downed power lines. Information on food safety during outages has been shared, urging proper disposal of spoiled food through compost services. The city is actively working to clear streets and restore normal operations across various city facilities.
