Council Roundup: City to acquire property to expand open space in Coal Creek Natural Area
The Bellevue City Council has approved the acquisition of a 12.2-acre parcel adjacent to the Coal Creek Natural Area, marking a significant advancement in local conservation efforts. Funded by a $9.2 million grant from the King County Conservation Futures Fund, this purchase aims to conserve a vital wildlife corridor and expand public open spaces. Mayor Lynne Robinson highlighted the initiative's role in supporting the city’s vision as a 'city in a park,' promoting both wellness and ecological integrity. Alongside this acquisition, the council has launched an update to its Economic Development Plan, emphasizing support for small businesses and aiming to diversify the local economy, which is expected to enhance Bellevue's position as a significant employment hub. Furthermore, the council is advancing its Housing Opportunities in Mixed-Use Areas initiative to increase affordable housing options. The council's commitment to environmental conservation and community development reflects their dedication to addressing pressing local needs. They will be on winter recess until January 7, 2025, when they will continue to address community priorities.
