Affordable housing and mixed-use development proposals sought for city-owned BelRed and Wilburton properties

The City of Bellevue has announced a call for proposals for residential and mixed-use developments on three city-owned parcels located in the BelRed and Wilburton neighborhoods, with an expected output of 500 to 600 new housing units. This initiative is designed to bolster housing availability near public transit and promote walkable, sustainable community development. The BelRed parcels, positioned next to a light rail station, aim to revitalize the area into a vibrant arts district, enhancing local culture and supporting over 100 creative businesses. One of the parcels will feature a mixed-use development that includes a 302-stall park-and-ride facility, while another site is designated for affordable housing catering to low- to moderate-income families. The Wilburton site is set to stimulate development in a long-established commercial area known as "auto row," encouraging a shift toward a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment. City officials, including Bianca Siegl, emphasize the unique opportunity these projects present for collaboration with developers in prime transit-oriented locations. This marks the first time Bellevue has offered multiple city-owned properties for housing development, reflecting a commitment to expanding housing opportunities.
